Okay so everyone has been asking me more or so the same question on "How do you buy shares" and I thought - let me a mini on what, where, why, when, how.

{Please note, I am not a financial advisor - so this is not financial advice}

A thread:
So what are shares?

simply put, shares are stakes or parts of ownership in a company. In this case (on what we are talking about, we are talking financial investments only!).

Side bar:

I think its always best to pay off your debt as much as possible before you venture in to investments. That was you have a bit of cashflow available on your month.

1) Pay off debt
2) Create a savings habit
3. And then Invest.

If I want to buy shares, where do I start?

First thing first. Please read, a lot. Be an avid reader and consumer of Business and Economic news. That will help you up a bit in terms of information.

My favourite local reads are Moneyweb, Business day and the JSE's sharenet.

How does Easy Equity work?

Simply put, they are the middle man to you and the company you want to invest in. That means if you download the app or register on line, you browse through them to buy or invest your shares.
You can signed up here: https://bit.ly/2JzA5MM

Once you've signed up, you will need to fill in a few details including your ID, Tax, etc. You are also required to submit your FICA documents too. FICA is a basic requirement for financial based institutions

#HealthierFinances
If you're struggling with the FICA part of it.

Here's a video where they explain how you load your documents etc for FICA. And if you still fail, please email them at: helpme@easyequities.co.za
Why do you want to invest is very important.

This will help you on your investment strategy. If you know why you want to invest - it also helps you know if you want to be invested in short term or long term, how long and how much you want to invest on the company.

When is the right time to invest or buy in a company?

Always buy when the stock is red or negative. So that when it grows - it grows with you. Weird fact: I find that the first 15 minutes, market volume and prices can and do go wild. (cont.
(cont from prev post)... A lot of company announce news after markets close (5pm). So in the morning, they usually busy making trades based on the news. See this is back to my point about reading - if you read news you can already predict what will drive your stock down or up.
How much should I start with?

I say R500 or less. Just to navigate the Easy Equity system and also, see if you get it or not. But please read and ask where you can... Again... remember the best time to get in, is when the stock is down.
Okay, I am done with the basic foundation....

A lot of people ask me 'what to buy' this is tricky because personally - I am not an investment analysts. Maybe my good friend @iamkoshiek can help. But i can share with you, what I have on my portfolio.
I have 70/30 on my portfolio. The 70% ETFs (Exchange-traded funds) and 30% is on equities.

Whats the difference between the two?

Equities are direct to the company - Capitec, sasol etc. ETFs - They are like an investment basket, diversified set of securities and a low cost.
Why is the bulk of my money on ETFs?

The stocks i pick are mostly Tax Free- this means I don't have to pay income tax, dividends tax or capital gains tax on the returns from these investments. And the annual limit on TFSA R36 000.
On Easy Equity - Tax free savings is the TFSA option .
Like I said, I cant tell you guys what to pick, but I can tell you what I have on my portfolio right now. But remember - wait until the share is down - before getting in.

I have a number of @SATRIX_SA ETFs .

Satrix Nasdaq 100 Feeder Portfolio has been my fave.
Other than Satrix I have @AshburtonInvest Global 1200 and @sygnia Itrix 4th Industrial Rev Global Equity ETF and SYGNIA ITRIX MSCI US. all on the green today.
I'm going to make an example about one of my stocks -

I have about 11 shares on Sygias 4th IRGE stock.
When I bought them they were
R33. Now they are R33 - so far, I'm happy with their growth...
The best time to buy this one would have been on the 14th of May - during their deep...

Nevertheless... A good buy and they are part of my long term strategy - so I don't have to panic about them
I usually monitor a stock for atleast 3 to 5 days before I put my money in it. Just to see how its doing.. lol. I dont like buying njeeee
BRB: I'm at work😂I still need to do my actual job, I will finish the thread midday
Equities are bit tricky - and very difficult to decide ... So my strategy is centered around the economy and a bit of understanding of what consumers are buying.

I will make an example - I bought @distellgroup shares a week ago. They are an alcohol producer
We all knew that alcohol was coming back this week right? Markets rejoiced on the day of return (like we all did) ...

I bought them R79.69 per share, now they are *R85.00 (11% up from purchase price).
This should be enough to kick start you on your investment journey. If you have a specific question , please feel free to ask below - you dont know who you might help by asking the question
If you've registered with @EasyEquities please do yourself a favour and go to their Academy page. It has amazing and educational content.
One you guys are set up - Maybe we can do a quick recap on what are ETFs, and why most investors prefer them....
