LRT: the cynic in me has been laughing constantly about the sudden outreach i've gotten in the last week or so from people i've barely ever talked to.
the idea that going to 1 protest or retweeting some BLM posts can undo years of compliance with racism is darkly hilarious.
here's an idea. want to contribute to lasting change?
take every single idea you've seen or had about helping to reform the racist system you benefit from. write them ALL down.
go to your calendar. set up a recurring, monthly reminder to do those things.
and wait a month.
you wanna do them now, too? sure. go ahead. but in a month, those bail funds and minority outreach orgs won't be seeing even 10% of the attention they're getting at this moment. once the glamour fades, fighting against black suffering will be far less popular.
i understand the desire to help, the fire that burns from wanting to see a terrible injustice righted.
but after this, racism will still be happening, in countless ways large & small, even if that wrong is righted.
it's not just about police brutality. it's everywhere.
(this is ABSOLUTELY the spiciest i will ever be on main, but i've stopped giving a damn at the moment. i just really don't wanna see this fire fade like it has, countless times in the past.)
also s/o to @/itskindred @/evan_monteiro @/xoxogossipgita
& @/AljernonBolden for giving me the strength to say this kinda shit on main
