genuine question:

what's stopping facebook employees from downing tools right now and stopping work on product dev?

is it fear of reprisal? is it that mark's values and leadership reflect their own values? are they waiting to see how speaking out works?
is it that they don't pay you enough and you have a bunch of debt, so you need the money? is it that you don't want to jeopardize rsus from vesting? is it that you don't want to stick your neck out, if you don't know how many others feel the same way?
is it that they don't see the harm? is it that, on balance, they think they're doing good? is it that working on feature development facebook marketplace right now helps make the world a better place?
is it that, if they do think they should down tools, they think they're massively outnumbered? is it that they don't have an accurate understanding of the views and opinions of their coworkers? is it that they saw what happened in myanmar and thought that was fine?
is it that there really is some uber okr out there that nobody's allowed to question and all you have to do is keep your head down and pushing those key results? is it that you don't want to rock the stock price? is it that they don't want to confront any yucky feelings?
is it that they don't want to confront the fact that they took the job to change the world and maybe just maybe they're seeing that all that change isn't positive and oh no oh god what have they done? is it that their cognitive dissonance is too painful?
is it because the number of black people or poc they know can be counted on one hand and even then not in base 2?
is it because it's really hard to say no?
is it because this poster is a lie?
or is it because this poster is a lie?
is it because this slogan only applies to some things but not others?
is it because now more than ever they believe they have to follow the advice of this poster?
is it because the group working on this finished?
is it because you can only ship so much love?
is it because shipping a new emoji for caring is really the best action they can think of?
is it because they aren't able to conceive of not doing something being more powerful than doing something?
is it because it's easier and less painful to talk and have conversations and all hands than to take direction action?
is it because this is a difficult and complicated area and there are no good solutions so it's important to keep talking about it and to make sure they aim for the perfect instead of just good enough?
is it because they read a post about virtue signaling and don't want to be laughed at for succumbing to emotion rather than being in rational control of their faculties?
