Abolition: an introductory thread. Because knowing a better world is possible is only the first step.
Abolition is both a critique of the Prison Industrial Complex (PIC) and a vision of what should replace it. The PIC is a racist institution that upholds white supremacist, capitalist patriarchy. It evolved out of slave patrols during reconstruction as a replacement to slavery.
Because of its history and it’s function, there is no reforming the PIC, it must be abolished. This is why all cops are bastards, regardless of their personal views (which are probably also trash) they exist to serve a white supremacist status quo.
