HOW TO FILM PROTESTS AND SHIELD PEOPLE'S PRIVACY (THREAD)
I've compiled a list of steps to ensure privacy and protection when filming protests. It’s compiled to the best of my knowledge, so anyone with more/better info, please feel free to chime in and help out.
1/ Install Signal on your phone, and film everything through Signal. This way neither Google nor Facebook nor Apple can have access to your data.
2/ Organise properly. Have other trusted people download the app as well, and send them the videos immediately. If possible have someone at home download the app and send them the videos as soon as you film them. This gives you backups in case something happens to your phone
3/ Ideally have the person at home edit the videos while you're protesting, this will ensure the videos get shared faster. Have them download the files directly through the Signal app on their pc (avoid iCloud and Google Drive at all costs)
4/ Edit videos though open source or offline software ideally (best to avoid Adobe for private stuff as they track way too much data). I personally use Davinci Resolve: it's free, powerful and easy to use.
5/ To blur out faces use this tutorial:
6/ Once done export. If unsure, open the deliver tab and click on the YouTube icon, top-left. Though not necessary, using YouTube settings should make the whole process easier and faster.
7/ Exporting through Davinci Resolve will take care of all lingering metadata.
8/ You can post the video now.

If anyone has any corrections please let me know and I'll amend the list.
11/ Be safe, do not blur the faces of police officers abusing their power and #blacklivesmatter
12/ I can make a proper video tutorial outlining all the steps in detail if you need me to, let me know
13/ Forgot to mention, Signal films for 30 seconds max, so keep that in mind
