If you're going to be a first time gun owner soon here's a few tips:
-regardless of the gun you buy make sure you can get a couple hundred rounds of ammo to match
-shotguns are bad for urban environments, apartments, etc
-get some training asap (use YouTube videos until then)
-FMJ/plated ammo is only for practice
-Defensive ammo (hollow point, ballistic tip, etc) ammo is safer and more effective for defensive use
-Buy AT LEAST 2 boxes of defensive ammo
-After break-in period with FMJ shoot AT LEAST 1 box of defensive ammo to function check
-Keep your magazines loaded to capacity with defensive ammo for use (it won't damage the springs)
-Know the laws for safe storage
-The safest place to have your gun is ON YOUR PERSON
-Use a holster for your specific firearm with retention (firearm shouldn't fall out when shook)
-Your new firearm is designed for specific ammunition and it is stamped on the barrel (9mm, 45 auto, 5.56 NATO, ect), DO NOT shoot anything else
-Welcome to the family, don't embarrass us
