I have been so wrapped up in channel-related stuff this past week and weekend, that I have not really had a chance to think about real world events (which is a privilege and a blessing in 2020), but hearing the news of what is happening to my friends to the South is devastating.
I am a middle aged white man, living in a big city in Canada, who lives a life largely free of worry. I have no real perspective on the experience of African Americans in my country, or of those living in the US. I am also just one guy who runs a modest YouTube channel about RPGs
Since Sunday night, I have had a chance to catch up on what has been happening in the US, including the horrifying video of the killing of George Floyd, and I cannot recall feeling more outraged, anguished, and helpless. Part of me feels that it is not my place to say anything...
...and that other, better, voices, will speak for those who truly own this outrage, with their own lived experience, but another part of me feels that to say nothing is to side with those saying to the rightfully aggrieved people in the streets "Go home and to the status quo."
As a TTRPG gamer, I love playing the role of the hero, but that is absolutely not my place in this moment. I am, at best, a witness or a bystander. With that in mind, and with the deepest respect for those living the experience of a black person in the US...
...I send my condolences, my love, and my hope for change to all the people in the US, but particularly those in black communities. I cannot ever fully understand your grief, your frustration, or your pain, but I am here for you, in whatever way I may help. #blacklivesmatter
