Okay: bands/labels that are donating Friday& #39;s @bandcamp proceeds to charity/legal/social work efforts, reply to this tweet, tag the group or groups you& #39;ll be supporting. Let& #39;s make this a resource. Some further thoughts to follow… 1/8
First: Bandcamp& #39;s revenue-waive setup was designed to help musicians facing sudden loss of income when COVID hit. If you need that money for rent/food/bills etc. first and foremost, then that& #39;s key. This is for contributions beyond immediate needs. 2/8
Second, if you& #39;ve already been doing this donation work, activism, etc., for months or years, great, you don& #39;t need my further thoughts. But let& #39;s say you& #39;re new to this. Then think about what you can and should best do. There& #39;s no one approach, but... 3/8
...if you& #39;ve been on here you& #39;ve hopefully now seen plenty of funds, organizations and more to consider giving to. Perhaps those are in your city or region, great, go for it. But also consider close on the ground efforts -- maybe they could use your help even more. 4/8
Do you live in an area where long-time residents need help? Are there local groups re bail reform, police oversight etc that deserve more specific shine? Are larger/more well known groups you& #39;re wanting to contribute to asking you to donate instead to those smaller orgs? 5/8
Remember, the sale is not until Friday -- there& #39;s no need to rush if you feel you should do a little research. The moment& #39;s urgency, though, is clear, as is a commitment to do things long-term. (And that is important -- long-term, long-haul.) 6/8
And just a final note: you don& #39;t donate or volunteer for the kudos or an ego boost. You do whatever you do -- and whatever you can do (not everyone can do everything) -- because it is right. Simple as that. 7/8
Now, requoting the start of this thread. Go back to that, post a response as I said if you& #39;ll be able to donate proceeds, tag who you& #39;ll be supporting, spread the word. 8/8 https://twitter.com/NedRaggett/status/1267497039895638016">https://twitter.com/NedRagget...
