YANNO WHAT...fuck it. https://twitter.com/enthuxiasm/status/1267482934199685120
I've dealt with racism in Disney for 26 years. This is "supposed" to be the place where we all escape from the troubles of the world, and we do at times. Not saying I dealt with racism ALL THE TIME in WDW, absolutely not. If it were like that I'd never show up there again
I have Disney in my blood, it's really my escape from reality whether it be for an hour or a week. But there are small things I deal with TO THIS DAY that rub me the wrong way. They may seem like nothing to non-POC, but it rubs me the wrong way
For example, in reference to @shawngorlando's post about the all star resorts being the "ghetto", that's where we would always stay in WDW when I was growing up. Coronado was our "deluxe" resort whenever we were feeling fancy
I've heard countless times people saying the All stars is like a "ghetto motel" compared to somewhere like Contemporary or even Caribbean Beach. I didn't really care about it back then, but I was ill-informed on the issued going on today.
In retrospect, it stings a little bit knowing that I was so accepting of people saying that so freely in the late 90's-early 2000's. And there are still people saying it TODAY. WHY?
After being exposed to the racism that's around us and you having EVERY OPPORTUNITY to educate yourself like the rest of society, you still want to use that word as the "poor people" resort.
There's no defending yourself in this. If you don't say it, there's no need to be like "I don't say it so--"
