After last year's police shooting death of Danquirs Franklin in #Clt @CMPD started to REALLY listen to community stakeholders for the first time and made changes as a result. What I've learned from listening to @CharlotteNAACP1 and @SAFEcoalitionNC over the weekend is despite those improvements, the community still wants more transparency, more accountability and more policy changes. #Charlotte #GeorgeFloyd #Defenders

This is what @CharlotteNAACP1 requested of @CMPD and @CLTgov in April 2019...more than a year ago. Today, some of the requests remain unmet. Others, like @SBI1937 investigating every officer-involved shooting and improved training, are now in place. #Defenders #GeorgeFloyd #Clt

Meanwhile, @SAFEcoalitionNC sent this email to @chiefputney in May 2019. While @CMPD did listen, there is still resistance to a duty to intervene policy, which would require officers to take action when they witness an injustice. @BraxtonWinston shared his support this weekend.
