/ As I fell asleep to the sound of police sirens and helicopters last night, I felt it's more important than ever to speak out. The last week has been incredibly hard for this country and so many of us are in pain. America has been here before and we will rise again, together.
/ First, if you’re upset by this I’ll just quote @ameliaboone: “As an athlete, I’ve gotten a fair amount of “stay in your lane” the past few days.

First, I don’t have a lane. Second, if I do, I’m committed to widening it. Third, “staying in our lane” is part of the problem.”
/ By the way, I doubled majored in American Government and Urban Sociology with a focus on the American Presidency and Inequality. Don't tell me to stick to running.
/ America had a racism problem from Day 1. The straight line from slavery to poll taxes to lynching to redlining to Jim Crow to the Republican’s Southern Strategy to Trump’s “very fine people” and “shithole countries” comments is clear.

Racism has destabilized us since 1776
/ We need to listen more. Empathize. Recognize that your experience is not my experience. And come to grips with the very serious racism problem in America and commit ourselves to fighting it.
/ Fighting it means learning about it. Thank you @fast_women for discussing racism in professional running recently: https://mailchi.mp/2d848dba0f4c/fast-women-june-1-2020-issue-74?e=3ff831df83

/ Kids can handle it. This is how change begins.

/ This thread was difficult to write. I’ve benefited from white privilege, studied it, and never supported white supremacy at the ballot box. But I know that I can’t sit here without speaking up. That I must be an ally. My work on that continues...
