4/ America had a racism problem from Day 1. The straight line from slavery to poll taxes to lynching to redlining to Jim Crow to the Republican’s Southern Strategy to Trump’s “very fine people” and “shithole countries” comments is clear.

5/ We need to listen more. Empathize. Recognize that your experience is not my experience. And come to grips with the very serious racism problem in America and commit ourselves to fighting it.

13/ This thread was difficult to write. I’ve benefited from white privilege, studied it, and never supported white supremacy at the ballot box. But I know that I can’t sit here without speaking up. That I must be an ally. My work on that continues...
