!!! THINGS TO KNOW FOR THE PROTEST IN DENTON !!!
This protest is also a march that will be led by the organizers. The route will be released once they start marching. If you choose to stay in one area and or to pass out water, snacks and first aid, that’s totally fine. Do as you please, just make sure to protect each other.
Here are some updates on the new “rules” The City of Denton pased. They say we cannot have bags bigger than a small clutch and that curfew starts @9PM. The chief of Denton PD says that breaking curfew is an arrestable offense so some protestors will probably disburse around 8:45
Dear other white protestors, this is not about us. Please do not speak over black voices. This protest is about racial injustice and the many murders of Black and POC people done by police. We need to stand with them and uplift their voices. Always protect black protestors. BLM
Please please please wear a mask! Some people will bring extra, but please if you have one wear it. Water is essential if you can bring extra to hand out that would be great. First aid is also important, just in case. Make sure to share if you can, it is greatly appreciated!
The organizers have asked that the protest stay peaceful in order to protect the protestors. If you see something some escalate with the police please let the people around you know. This is for public safety. Also please don’t harm the local buissnesses on the square.
Know your rights!!! This is important, seeing as it is not illegal for anyone to protest —yet people have been arrested in other cities for no reason.
Here is a denton pro bono lawyer and a link to a list of pro bono lawyers all around Texas. I am suggesting that you write one of these numbers on your arm or keep it somewhere you can use if you get arrested.
TEAR GAS WARNING!!! I have seen lots of posts mentioning that milk can cause Infections... please use water mixed with baking soda or just water to clear your eyes. It would be wise to bring protective eye gear just in case.
Reminder to make sure to blur protestors faces if you are going to post photos/video. It is important to protect the safety and identity of protestors. Below is an app that works well for free. Also, here’s an example of blurring protest photos.
