How can tech help?

Hire more black people! Hire more brown people!

A tech job has changed my financial mobility in the last 8 months. I paid off $10K in student loan debt only b/c of my job.
The industry chooses to use the mythical "pipeline problem" as an excuse to blame others for a problem the tech industry created.

The tech industry has thrived on bias, gatekeeping, and virtue signaling to escape during the hard work.
Founders/VCs throwing money is helpful but the intent vs. impact of an one-time payment is to relieve people of their white guilt rather than help the black community thrive.
However, if you hired black and brown people, this gives us access to other opportunities that will better our lives, our families, our communities - and your business, your customers, your product are also enhanced by the new experiences black and brown people bring.
There are qualified black and brown people for your job.

You just continue to let your job descriptions, lengthy hiring process, untrained Hiring Managers and hiring teams, unpaid take home assignments that require many hours, to unintentionally weed out most people.
Before tech decides to throw money and believes it is better than other industries during the riots, why don't we look internally first and see how the industry's false meritocracy actually gatekeeps qualified black and brown people.
Founders/VCs/Hiring Managers, what are you doing to course correct and hire more black and brown people?

How are you going to challenge yourself to make your processes more inclusive moving forward?

How are you going to use your socioeconomic status to provide access?
