CLEAN CAMERA LENS
If your lens is smudged, your photos will be bad. It's harder to see with dirt in your eyes. Always wipe your camera lens before you start shooting. Please use a soft cloth like a microfibre cloth and not army khaki. A clean lens can easily be the difference.

COMPOSITION
This means how you frame your shot, what's showing on the screen. Try to always keep the subject (person or thing) in the centre of the frame, vertically and/or horizontally. Symmetry is beauty. This is for everyday shots, some photos have a different concept.

USE GRIDLINES
These are lines on the screen that can help a lot to get better composed, balanced, level shots. It can take your photography game from good to great. On iPhone, Settings > Camera then toggle Grid. Android, Open Camera > Settings. Toggle 'Grid Lines'

FOCUS
Usually, if the subject isn't in focus (blurry) it's a bad photo. This is normally caused by bad autofocus (software or hardware) and/or shaky hands. Click the screen to focus on the subject if necessary. To minimise shaking, hold the phone with both hands if possible.

VOLUME BUTTON
Especially when in landscape mode, using the volume rockers as your shutter button just makes sense. Besides the feel of holding a traditional camera, holding the phone with both hands greatly minimises shakes while tapping the screen often well... shakes it. Lol

LIGHTING
Photography is light. No light = No photos. Good lighting conditions often means better photos. The subject should always face the light source, the camera should not shoot directly at the light source. There's a lot more to this topic, but these are the basics.

NO FLASH
Avoid using flash as much as possible, they cause more harm than good to your photos like flares and red eyes. Find an alternate light source instead, natural light is always best. Only use flash to shoot ghosts in a pitch-black room

AVOID ZOOM
Only zoom in if you must, always try to avoid it. Zooming takes a lot of details out of your shot. Instead, go closer or shoot as is then crop later on. This way you preserve as much quality as possible.

EDIT
Editing your photos can make it better, or worse tbh. For instance, when shooting food, you want to bump up the saturation and vibrance a little, it'll look more delicious. It does depend on the conditions. Too little is better than too much when editing. Don't overdo it.

In conclusion, photography is art and art's worth is appreciation. Technically, there are no bad photos (one man's meat). Phones cannot replace a proper camera, but these days you can do a lot with them, they got so good!
