No Actually, it's not okay for Conservative politicians to be celebrating pride month, because the cabinet is CHOCK FULL of OPENLY HOMOPHOBIC PEOPLE.
Mr. Johnson called me a 'Tank topped bum boy.' Ben Wallace (defence) voted against Equal marriage. Priti Patel (home sec) voted against Equal Marriage. Robert Buckland (Justice Sec) voted against Equal Marriage.
Therese Coffey (work and Pensions) voted against Equal Marriage. Gavin Williamson (Education Sec) voted against Equal Marriage. George Eustice (Food and Social Affairs) Against in NI. Simon Hart (Welsh Sec) voted against Equal Marriage.
Not in the Cabinet, but Senior Ministers
Jacob Rees-Mogg (Commons Leader) Against Equal Marriage. Suella Braverman (Attorney-General) voted against Equal Marriage in NI.
Before someone starts on the whole, just because they don't believe in equal marriage doesn't make them homophobic argument. If you can't see how denying a right to a proportion of the population that other people have is homophobic, check your privilege.
If you can't see how standing in the way of other people covenanting their love is homophobic, check your privilege.
For balance, here are the Cabinet Ministers that voted in favour, Michael Gove, Dominic Raab, Matt Hancock, Alok Sharma, Elizabeth Truss, Robert Jenrick (hasn't voted on it), Grant Shapps, Brandon Lewis, Alister Jack (never voted)
Simon Hart voted in favour in NI, against in 2013. Oliver Dowden has never voted. Anne-Marie Trevelyan has never voted. Amanda Milling has never voted.
If the Tories were on my side, they wouldn't be appointing people who have actively voted against my rights to senior positions in govt.
If you can't see how thinking "I'm going to use my position of power to deny a right I enjoy to other people is not homophobic, then I just don't know what to say.
Would I vote against straight marriage? No. Even though it's not something I would do myself, I LOVE my straight friends, and want them to have the same rights as me.
