I am so sick and tried of seeing tweets like this on Twitter, no one is saying they hate ALL good individual police officers, what people are saying they HATE institutional racism and the unjust Gov' structures! https://twitter.com/robbystarbuck/status/1267276382175924225
If you are unfamilar with how institutional racism works, I suggest watching this great video by professor Tricia Rose.
(To my understanding) The system covers 5 main areas. For this thread I will focus two sub-categories from the Weath and Criminal Justice areas - Banking and Police States.
I recently found out there is a term in the finacial system called 'Redlining' which refers to the practice of financial institutes denying or increasing consumers cost to certain groups based on their enthicity.
Originally banks purposefully excl black people from access to loans (incl student loans, credit cards, insurance and mortagages). Black areas were identified by postcode/zip codes on maps where a redline across these neighbourhoods would be drawn hence the term 'Redlining'.
As a by product of this system discriminated against other groups of minorities & also working class white ppl (via classism) tht lived or owned businesses within these areas. Although this practice has been made illegal, it is still being used today, just packaged differently.
Lets look at the history of the Police, although there are some amazing, honest people, working for law enforcement agencies to make a difference within their community.
Unfortunately, The whole law enforcement agencies and establishments that were sworn to protect was originally founded upon brutality against black people! I wish this was NOT the case but we can't ignore its history!
The first systematic form of policing in the U.S was called the Paddyrollers, or Slave Patrols a group of private security AGENCIES that was created with the task to protect commercial property and hunt down runaway slaves. https://gen.medium.com/slavery-and-the-origins-of-the-american-police-state-ec318f5ff05b
The construction of these law enforcement agencies were never made to serve and protect black people, but to track, hunt and use deadly force!
Whilst the 13th amendment ended slavery in the United States, there's still slave laws active today that work in favour and to uphold the racist ideas of certain institutions. They keep the machine working.
The 13th Amendment, as enacted, reads "neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United State, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."so if you are convicted of a crime
The punishment is Prison Labour aka modern day slavery.

This is what people are angry about, the whole system that has been created to suppress black people and other minorties and working class citizens. This is why they are rioting because Black Lives Do Not Matter. #BlackLivesMatter #ALLLIVESMATER
The system needs to be dismastled and rebuilt. Black people are tired of talking and not being heard in 400 years plus nothing has changed, but just in the U.S but globally. Rioting may not be the answer but for the first time in years, you ALL are now listening.

Stay safe!
