Everyone is RIGHTLY praising @MaxWCCO, but I think there needs to be more context on why(a thread). @MaxWCCO has been a HUGE part of the community over twenty years. His beat has been sports, but doesn't just report scores and highlights. a thread (1/) @WCCO
. @MaxWCCO has a keen interest on sports at all level, but most importantly with high school sports, where youth and their families spend much of their time. He has been able to go deeper and expand his reporting on the stories of the lives of youth and their family. 2/
When @MaxWCCCO then has to pivot to today, he interviews leaders of our current movement by starting off the interview “This is ____ and I first met him when he was at _____ high school.” This matters cause there is already a relationship between community and its media. 3/
. @MaxWCCO has been able to use that relationship to be a respected member of the community. It appears that protesters and community members are more comfortable to share their stories with him. You can see him the past few days also getting info from the protesters. 4/
. @MaxWCCO genuine interest in our community starting with youth is an inspiration to us all. 5/
If our community leaders and our police could be more genuinely interested in our neighbors lives like @MaxWCCO, I truly believe that will go a LONG WAY to change the systemic racism that we have in Minneapolis and the Twin cities. 6/6 @wcco
And didn't see this while I wrote, but @MaxWCCO is trending
