Good morning, folks. I’ve got a few things I’d like to share today. First off, I urge you to read this poignant post from my colleague Annastacia Belladonna-Carrera at @commoncausemn about her community. https://www.commoncause.org/democracy-wire/ballots-not-bullets-in-minneapolis/">https://www.commoncause.org/democracy...
In my little good government world in Rhode Island it’s a BIG week. If you haven’t heard, there’s an election tomorrow. If you still have your mail ballot DON’T put it in the postal mail! Drop it @RI_BOE, or call your local board of canvassers to see if they’re open for drop off
If you didn’t get your mail ballot even though you requested one, call your local board of canvassers and ask to vote a provisional ballot today, or go to your polling place tomorrow and vote a provisional ballot. Ideal? Nope. But it’s the best way to make sure you can vote.

Also! The Senate Committee on Rules, Gov& #39;t Ethics and Oversight meets at 4 p.m. today. Agenda:

If">https://status.rilin.state.ri.us/documents... you think that their proposal for proxy voting is insufficient, like I do, speak up!

Finally, the Ethics Commission meets tomorrow morning (great timing, eh!) and they’re set to vote on an advisory opinion deciding whether Senator Lynch Prata can apply for the Rhode Island Supreme Court. Guess what? We don’t think she can! https://www.providencejournal.com/news/20200520/ethics-panel-is-urged-deny-ri-lawmakerrsquos-bid-for-high-court-seat">https://www.providencejournal.com/news/2020...
Why do we think she can’t? 1) The plain language of the law says that legislators can only be *elected* to constitutional office, and 2) The people who were involved when the revolving door passed will tell you that it was designed to not allow this move. https://twitter.com/LC_briang/status/1263829420432859137">https://twitter.com/LC_briang...
So, a lot of good government issues on tap this week. Get at it!
And since I’ve been asked, here’s a copy of a letter I sent to the Senate leadership about their proposed rules change:

And here’s a letter I sent to the Ethics Commission staff about the revolving door:
