1. @LevarStoney, @GovernorVA, @city_rcso, @RichmondPolice This is absurd, I've been at the jail since 1am to check on clients arrested for curfew violation. It is now 9am and many are still being held!
2. First I was told that no one, not even lawyers, were allowed on the property, much less be allowed into the jail to check on clients. Deputies had the parking lot blocked off
3. I waited out front with volunteers @RVABailFund to help people as they were released. I saw many cars of family and friends turned away and told they could wait at the jail for their loved ones to be released
4. Support the volunteers with @RVABailFund! While we were waiting out front, the sheriff's office decided to start releasing people OUT THE BACK OF THE JAIL. Middle of the night. Dark and cold street after hours inside.
5. So I moved to the back of jail. Talked to several that had no idea where they were, phones had dead batteries, had not been allowed to make a phone call - or their ride was trying to find them in the dark of night - bc sheriff was not letting family into the parking lot
6. Sheriff deputies try to bare from the property because "I yelled at them" - sorry but Nice Guy Charlie went home hours ago
7. Finally, around 5:45am sheriff opens parking lot. Stops releasing people from the back - bail and legal support volunteers to the rescue with snacks, food, rides (seriously, give them your support @RVABailFund)
7:30 am @SheriffRva Our Sheriff Irving finally shows up to help speed the process?! Nope, she just tries to lecture me about yelling at her poor deputies. 9:30am, people still just trickling out of the jail.
All of this is just insane, unnecessary, and negligent
