Imagine being Labour grandee and- in the context of workers facing a clear and immediate risk to their lives- adopting a position that’s not just anti worker but pro Tory. https://twitter.com/andrew_adonis/status/1267180697908916225
One of the greatest tricks capital ever ever pulled was finding people from the labour movement who are prepared to sell it out. But this guy isn’t even from the movement- he’s just an ingrate and an idiot.
Honestly think you could build a critique of late capitalist society solely around Andrew Adonis- a completely talentless hack who creates nothing of any use value yet but has had influence on government policy and is, presumably, absolutely wadded.
His Twitter game is quite interesting too. Tonally it’s still got that mindlessly beatific optimism of early New Labour, despite the objective fact that there are people dying all over the shop.
Plus this sort of child-like stanning for Tony Blair that’s significantly more devout and personalised than that of even the most credulous Coybinite, and seems to be totally oblivious to how unpopular Blair is, or why.
If I didn’t suspect that he’s being rewarded somehow I’d assume he was completely mad.
There’s none of the barely-suppressed rancour and animosity of someone like Akehurst or Alan Johnson. It’s like seeing a county cricketer tweeting about the excellent service at their local BMW showroom.
And also the sense that he’d be quite personable and superficially charming if you met him, before mounting a glib defence of turning the Middle East into double glazing.
