misinformation about #dcblackout - a thread
this is fake. it’s a screenshot from a tv show/movie.
this image is not from last night it’s a stock photo. the edited version can even be found with a simple reverse image search
this account tweeted this and then deleted the tweet and deactivated, inciting panic. it was most likely fake. they posted it around 7 am DC time, long after photos and videos of the city appearing normal had been posted on snapchat and instagram. there were no protesters at 7 am
people keep saying there are no stories showing up on instagram for washington DC’s location, or that it’s not visible inside the US. wrong, it’s clearly visible and people are posting photos and videos tagging DC
this is what it looks like for me. the icon isn’t clickable because i already viewed the stories available. if you try it with literally any other city it does the same thing. i viewed the story in london as a test
lot of people tweeting about twitter “taking down videos” that are easily visible on snapchat. they’re just videos of the protest, most people have seen them already. you can see new snaps of people going about their day #dcblackout tapped through some, but i recorded this myself

people keep saying tweets are “getting deleted”... you do know that people have the ability to delete their own tweets right? and that they might be doing it to cause people to panic? take a step back and look at this rationally.
all of the videos people keep saying twitter are “taking down” are available on snapchat. they are still there and have been there all night. stop. inciting. panic.
this is what a fake account and/or someone trying to spread panic looks like. this is their only tweet, generic username and layout, all other tweets random replies. this video shown has been up on snapchat for HOURS and still is. twitter is not deleting videos.
muting this bcs it’s causing my phone distress but if i see anything else i will add to it

someone sent this to me, seems to be coverage of the protest. tweet posted at 5 am DC time during the reported outage.

well. looks like either my app or twitter in general is broken but the tag is completely overwhelmed by misinformation and i’m not gonna try to tackle any more. everything that needs to be clarified is in this thread
one last thing i will add on the current thing that seems to be blowing up. if anyone posts a video from snapchat of the protests and says “TWITTER IS DELETING THIS SPREAD IT” they are either lying on purpose or giving into misinformation and panic. furthermore,
