Honoured to be in great company thx @synapse101 😍 #AmplifyTheVoiceOf10Women Emma is an advocate, ally, role model and mentor who brings much needed views to the fore. She smashes stereotypes in nutrition science and leads by example in her research and teaching. The best human https://twitter.com/synapse101/status/1266520670009126912
Taking her lead, I'm going to #AmplifyTheVoiceOf10Women @UniversitySA. This list is by no means exhaustive, I'm lucky to work with so many amazing women on a daily basis. These are just a few who deserve a shout out for going above and beyond to make the world a better place
1: @ScienceManu. I admire Manuela's passion for her research and her vocal advocacy for #WomenInSTEM. She made a significant contribution to UniSA's bronze SAGE accreditation. I want to thank her for regularly checking on me over the last few weeks, I really appreciate it
2: @DrRenly. Renly is one of Australia's leading ECRs in the field of pharmacy and I am in awe of her enthusiasm for extracurricular activities. She unselfishly dedicates a lot of time and effort to generate opportunities for her peers. Thank you for all of your hard work!
3: @morgana4. Since we first met, I have been impressed by Ann's approach - proactive, collaborative and solutions focused. She advocates for female empowerment and is the organiser of Australia's biggest #InternationalWomensDay event, raising money for UN Women Australia
4: @dujiarainy. Tina is a human information behaviour expert - the study of how we seek, interpret and use information. Her recent work has focused on health and social considerations in marginalised communities. It is a joy to work with Tina - her positivity is truly uplifting
5: @BarbaraDrigoAU. Barbara is the most enthusiastic microbiologist you will ever meet. She is an @eXXpedition ambassador who goes above and beyond to make good things happen for others. Her hard work has led to the establishment of @AdelaideJAMS and @500womensci in Aus and NZ
6: @nomad_penguin. Amie is an accomplished educator and researcher, an advocate for women in maths and an ally for marginalised people. Thoughtful and kind, she always looks out for others. It is great to see her in a UniSA STEM leadership role, going from strength to strength
7: @DrAsh_Smith works at the nexus between neuroscience, exercise physiology and cognitive ageing. She is a vocal cheerleader for her students and ECRs, personally invested in their success as a sponsor and role model. Ash supports EMCRs in brain science via @EMCRBrainAu
8: @CarolineTiddy. Caroline's efforts with @CrcMinex include development of new tools for minerals exploration and co-ordination of the Education and Training Program. She is looking into barriers to progression for women in geosciences with @s_sardeshmukh through an RTIS project
10: @marta_krasowska. Marta is the Queen of Synchrotron Science at UniSA. She looks out for her students, staff and collaborators from both a professional and personal perspective. She is generous, caring and gives the best hugs. Hopefully my next one isn't too far away 😁
I want to acknowledge some gaps. I don't think I've met any Aboriginal women researchers at UniSA. I follow here, listening and amplifying voices. It isn't enough, my job is to offer support. First step is to ask questions and be guided by the answers. I can and will do more
I'm not aware of any "out" transgender researchers at UniSA but I'm here to do the work. I want to fill gaps in support for minoritised academics. I encourage frank conversations and will stand up for what's right. As a first step, I have applied to join the LGBTQI+ ally network
I've had a tough day, where I've struggled to find the right words and haven't been making much sense. I think I let myself down on something that meant a lot to me, which is hard to sit with. Hopefully my good intentions with this thread are shining through as today's highlight
I encourage you to reply with your own shout out to an amazing woman (or women!) at UniSA. I'm vowing to learn more about our community and to continue working hard so that our women researchers can achieve their goals. It's my small contribution to help them change the world 😊
