lore is often what gives the character in game personality and depth, making people attached to characters, making the game grow, and in turn, resulting in an esport being devised from said game. Competitive wouldn't even exist if the game wasn't big in the first place imo 😅 https://twitter.com/geometric/status/1267243759382794240
And lore wasn't created for everyone. If people don't like it, that's fine, if people like it, it's a perk for them to explore. Fan artists love characters with personality and backsfory, and all the fancy animations that yall enjoy from video games tend to be based off lore too.
I think what differentiates siege from other shooters is that the character has depth, personality and back stories, otherwise it would be just a mindless shooter, lore gives it flavour imo, but if its not for you that's okay too.
Not to start a fight or anything but that's how I perceive things
Voicelines and designs of a character you fall in love with is based on lore. Character interactions is based on lore. Character representation is based on lore and they're all important, seeing someone we can relate to often gives us a comfort character as well as an audience
I don't think cosplayers nor fanartists will exist as much if there isn't lore, if there isn't something to intrigue an audience, and lore can also capture a secondary audience to a game where they don't care about the competitive aspect at all as well.
Not to attack anyone but

Its the same as asking

What is the deal with people who care about the competitive aspect of a video game where they'll probably almost never play in it at all?

Diff aspects of the game are made for Diff people, and that's okay.
End of thread, sry to talk alot but lore is rly important to me
