Fake stories and manufactured or drastically altered videos and photos are likely to proliferate in the coming days and weeks, designed to elicit anger and drive division, a trend likely to increase in the lead up to the November 2020 election.
Responsible and objective journalism should focus less on amplifying the fringes and more on the prospects for grass-roots political change being demanded by a generation of Americans who refuse to live in a society that undervalues individuals based on the color of their skin.
