Yesterday I was around more people than I have been for the past 2 1/2 months. I attended Cardiff’s #BlackLivesMatter protest because #WhiteSilenceIsViolence and it felt like the right thing to do. I stand by that.
I have, however, had some really conflicting feelings since. I stayed to the edges, everyone was attempting to social distance, I was wearing a mask. But I keep feeling like maybe it was still unwise. It’s too early for lockdown to be lifted and R numbers are still high here.
I almost feel guilty for going, which throws up complex issues. Because I get a choice. As a white, middle class professional I’ve been able to choose to keep as isolated as possible and still have an income. I benefit from structural inequalities that impact others negatively.
Anyway, this thread didn’t have a particular closing point in mind, just a series of thoughts. If you are able, please donate to #BlackLivesMatter causes. https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/#donate
