i’ve been a lot more vocal about this on my stan twitter account, but it’s important to speak out on all platforms no matter how small the audience is, right now is the time to raise awareness, educate people & do everything we can to stop the murders of even more innocent people
sign petitions! donate if you can! go out and protest if you are able to! do your part as a human being!
also, don’t just read news outlets and mainstream media in order to educate yourself, look at what the black communities around the world are saying, listen to THEIR voices instead of media outlets, most of which have proven to be corrupt and prejudiced
look at video footage, read up on people’s accounts from protests, don’t blindly believe everything you hear or see, look for the things that mainstream media won’t show you; reach out to people if you know you can help with supplies/medical assistance/donations of any kind
i know we’re in the middle of a pandemic and i know not everyone has the means or mental health to go out and join the movement physically, but you can still help by signing petitions, donating (if you’re financially able to), elevating black voices and not staying silent
and if you support the movement but aren’t speaking up because have a problem with looting and rioting, then you’re not a supporter at all - just remember that the violence started when police officers decided to overstep and kill innocent people
let’s not forget that it’s been proven more than enough times that the violence at protests is almost exclusively started by white people who just want to stir shit up while black people peacefully protest until reinforcements come with tear gas and batons to “maintain order”
if you’re not speaking out because you’re worried it will “ruin” your brand or because racism isn’t a “thing” where you’re from - sincerely, fuck you. systemized racism in deeply rooted into every western state and is further fuelled by large companies and brands for wider profit
if you have a platform - USE IT, doesn’t matter if you’re an author, a celebrity, an influencer, a brand owner, a barber, USE YOUR VOICE to reach people and set an example
and finally, before this thread gets even longer than it has to, from the bottom of my heart, fuck the police and all cops are bastards.
