People have been making threads talking about how their disappointment is valid and it should be respected and we shouldn't talk over black ARMY. Which is true, don't talk over black ARMY. ALL black ARMY. Including the ones who said it's a bullcrap outrage.
Yet, I've seen dismissive attitude toward folks who didn't fall in line with the popular thought. So...some black people's voices don't matter as much? I mean, boiling it down, what they're essentially saying is that the voice of outrage has more validity solely bc it's outrage.
But the direction and reason of outrage both matter equally. And we know for a fact that the source of it is an infamous hater. We also know for a fact that many people have sampled the cultist asshat; but it became a problem when a Korean rapper used it. In a proper context.
It's also a fact that anti-Korean and anti-East Asian sentiments and prejudice, especially in terms of hip hop culture, are still common. Reverse the role, and let's say a black rapper used a controversial speech targeting Koreans to make a political point against it.
The threads would've been about how it's hip hop culture to sample these speeches to attack them. So there's this indication within the criticism that a Korean rapper cannot possibly understand hip hop to a similar level. And I'm not fine with that, either.
It's fine to dismiss me and this thread because I'm white, treat yourself. But don't you dare walk away from black ARMY with "welp, it's my opinion, respect it" because that's dismissive and leads to the silencing of black voices, too. Don't act like black ARMY all agree w/ you.
And instead of making twenty threads about how Y**ngi personally disappointed you and you demand an apology, why not go to group chats and discuss FIRST? Why not face the people on the opposite end & just talk points?
Why are there multiple threads about respecting those who feel hurt, but none about respecting those who disagree, too?

Because one opinion became a bandwagon. And that wagon was lead by a known hater. And was partially fuelled by anti-Korean sentiments.
So congratulations, stan Twitter. You've managed to censor the art of a Korean rapper who criticized groupthink and clout chasing...
And since this is Twitter, I want to make it absolutely clear: I'm no pro, no contra how people feel about sampling. That's their personal business. I just don't fuck with saying X black ARMY are valid, Y black ARMY aren't because ALL of their voices should be amplified. ALL.
