THE DAY I WAS BOOED OFF STAGE!
This makes me laugh so hard every time I remember.
Let me tell you about it.
Four years ago, I entered for a musical competition.

Four years ago, I entered for a musical competition.
Like, I have always loved to sing, I constantly disturbed my family and the neighbours
(in my mind, I sounded like Whitney Houston so they should be blessed to hear me for free).
My friends?
Well...
They thought I could sing too, so they urged me to go for this competition.

Audition went well and so did the first stage
(this was largely because I sang in front of a few people, so I could control the tension).
Then...
The day came for the finals!

Then...
The day came for the finals!
It was my turn to present a duet - "When you believe - Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey" with my partner (we were paired).
I was to sing Whitney's part.
I know what you're thinking...
This was supposed to be where I channeled my inner "Whitney" and blow their minds right?

Well, I did blow their minds...
In the worst way!
I was scared, shy, tensed, nervous, I was feeling everything at once!
So, I began singing my village people's style.
That's right.
I messed up!

The crazy school crowd..
Know what they did?
The booed me without mercy!
I didn't make it to the second round (obviously).
I went backstage and, oh well, I cried sha, then I wiped my eyes.
I didn't allow that discourage me.

I continued to sing in front of people (if I die, I die - there's only one death
)
I joined a music team and led songs - even when I was shaky, when I made mistakes, I pressed on.
I learnt and grew!

Last year, I had times when I got off the choir stage and people came at me like:
"Thank you for blessing me with such an amazing ministration!"
Days ago, I was watching a ministration I did before the lockdown and I thought...
"They once booed me off the stage!"

Why am I telling you this?
Your first try at anything?
You'll suck.
But if you keep at it, press on, want to do better?
You'll do better. You'll exceed your expectations infact.

Don't quit because you got booed offstage, don't give in to failure.
