I was having a little headspace from socials but now is too important of a time not to be vocal. It& #39;s deeply fustrating to see social media posts condemning discrimination from the same sections of the music industry who have told me what I can and can& #39;t do as a black artist.
Please wake up to the differences in decisions being made about the careers of minority artists/musicians EVERYDAY. No matter how big or small, they all reinforce a system that feels like it has the power to put parameters on people& #39;s freedom.
While making music as Kimberly Anne a music journalist interviewing me from a well respected newspaper said & #39;You decribe yourself as acoustic/indie but your image isn& #39;t inline with that. You have an afro& #39;. To which I said & #39;I& #39;m pretty sure my hair doesn& #39;t mind what music I make& #39;.
From the accessories I wore, the events I played at, to which musicians I had on stage with me. It had to be considered how the project would be widely perceived. What needed to be toned down to not confused where I was being positioned genre/press wise.

I played my part in that process too which angers me now. But anger is useful and I will use it to make change
