(1/9) Over the past few months thousands of you have shared the challenges you’ve been facing during the coronavirus pandemic– we’ve heard that lots of you are finding it difficult to get essential supplies of food and medication, or aren’t feeling safe or supported at work.
(2/9) We’ve been listening to your concerns & pressing the UK government for more clarity around the risks for people with diabetes. New data was released last month showing that some people with diabetes are at higher risk of serious illness (or death) if they catch coronavirus.
(3/9) Our message here is clear: everyone with diabetes must be protected and supported – whether at home or at work – and given clear and consistent guidance on how to stay safe.
(4/9) Clinicians must be supported to identify their patients with diabetes at highest risk, and to discuss with these patients what measures they should take based on their individual circumstances.
(5/9) If it is appropriate, your healthcare team should ensure that a shielding letter is issued & that you get the right support.
(6/9) We’re continuing to press the UK government to ensure their policies and guidance reflects what we know about the risks, and protects people with diabetes both at home and at work.
(7/9) They must ensure that the safeguards for people with diabetes working outside their home are clear, & robustly enforced, to make sure they are safe at work and – if this can’t be guaranteed – that they’re either able to work from home, or can use the furlough scheme.
