I have tweeted a lot about how scared and unsafe we have felt in our home the past few nights. This #Thread is about the #privilege in those posts.
#Minneapolis #BLM #JusticeForGeorge
Yes, we have been scared for a few nights, but usually we live in a safe neighborhood and don’t go to bed scared.
Yes, we have been worried about police action and lack of action in our neighborhood this week, but usually we don’t have to fear the police, and they come when we call.
Yes, we have had tough conversations with our children and about what we should and shouldn’t share with them, but usually our children’s worlds are uncomplicated and care free.
The people who have made us the most nervous are NOT the BLM protesters, but the discomfort and fear that we have experienced as a result of the murder of #GeorgeFloyd has given us just a taste of what POCs go through every day.
As things calm down, and protests become more “peaceful” we cannot forget what started all of this. A man was killed by police in broad daylight with cameras rolling.
#BlackLivesMatter . We must keep fighting until EVERYONE can have the baseline level of safety and security that we usually enjoy.
