Happy #PrideMonth2020 🏳️‍🌈
“You should be proud of the person you are, and you have nothing to be ashamed of” - Prince William
In June 2016, he appeared on the cover of Attidude magazine, becoming the first royal to be the cover star of an LGBT magazine 🌟 He also invited several people of the LGBT community to Kensington Palace to further discuss the mental health and social obstacles they face.
“No one should be bullied for their sexuality or any other reason and no one should have to put up with the kind of hate that these young people have endured in their lives” - Prince William
In June 2019, he visited the Albert Kennedy Trust @aktcharity, a charity supporting homeless LGBTQ+ youth 🌈 It was during this visit that he said he would be absolutely fine with his own children being gay but that he’d be worried about the public scrutiny they would face.
Prince William’s mother Diana, Princess of Wales was also an avid supporter of LGBTQ+ causes. She’s credited to helping break the stigma around AIDS during the 80s. Her shaking hands with AIDS patients was “life-changing for LGBT people across the world” 💜
Princess Diana’s legacy on LGBT issues continued through Prince Harry as well. In 2019, SussexRoyal chose to highlight Pride for the month of June 🏳️‍🌈
During the State Opening of Parliament in 2017,HM the Queen showed support of the LGBT community:”My government will make further progress to tackle the gender pay gap and discrimination against people on the basis of their race, faith, gender, disability, or sexual orientation”
Happy Pride Month everybody 🌈
