Lots of white Christians/church leaders are feeling pressured to post in order to prove they are not racist. I can understand that at a time when we judge everyone on what they do and do not say on social media the pressure is real. But there are a few traps to avoid:
Racism may be seeming clearer to you now but it has layers of nuances that black thinkers have been articulating for decades, so get to know Anthony Reddie, Mukti Barton and Robert Beckford just to name a few. There is lots to understand and you have a long road ahead of you
Resist the temptation to make grand statements about racial inclusion and justice if your own leadership in this area is weak. This is the time for you to interrogate your own whiteness and the ways it functions as a dominating cultural force in your church/organisation
The ways in which white culture/norms are often seen as superior/proper/'just the way we do things' in many church contexts/organisations when there are several ethnic groups, is the thin edge of the white supremacy wedge that killed George Floyd. It all needs to be rooted out.
