The US is a relatively young nation, it is only 243 years old. In contrast, a single dynasty in China (the Zhou) went on for 867 years.

The problem with young nations like US is that its politicians tend to overestimate its internal stability. This is dangerous.
US has also been lucky. True, it fought a civil war in the 1860s, but it was fortunate to have a Civil Rights Movement led by pacifist like Martin Luther King in the 1960s, not more radical elements like Malcolm X.

The actions of anarchists should worry US politicians.
US is presently led by a divisive president, who responds to every crisis by further dividing Americans, thus inflaming passions. It also has a citizenry armed to the teeth.

This is a combustible mix, which could be taken advantage of by malign forces.
