THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM IS EXTREMELY BROKEN AND CORRUPT— A THREAD
foster care is apart of our wonderful system of child care that most people seem to overlook or forget about. unless they’re having abortion debates etc. that’s the most oooular time for the subject of foster care to surface.
“don’t murder the unborn baby!” pro lifers say, “utilize options like adoption or foster care! they deserve to live!” but when pro lifers say those things, for the most part they have no clue what life that child will have if the parent “utilizes those options”
the system fails kids every single day. 1 in 17 kids are placed into foster care. the foster care placement rate is increased to 1 in 9 for black kids and 1 in 7 for native children. up to 70% of the kids in juvy have been in the child welfare system.
a whopping 50% of foster care children don’t graduate from high school. 48% of young girls in foster care become pregnant by the age of 19. 60% of child trafficking victims have foster care histories (mostly because of foster care which i will devel into later).
also, kids that are in foster care are 4x more likely to attempt suicide than the average child.

on any given day there are up to as much as 437,000 children in foster care just in the united states, and those numbers are growing every single day. and with so many children needing families to look after them permanently, it just can’t be fulfilled.
especially not with so many of the so called “qualified” foster parents there are who don’t even foster to adopt. in 2018, more than 17,000 young people in foster care AGED OUT of the system. yes. that’s a thing. source for the last 2 tweets : https://www.foster-america.org/the-problem
when a child turns 18, or in some states 16, they “age out” of the system and are no longer allowed to be in foster care. with no family and little resources, 40-50% become homeless within 18 months. what kind of good child care system throws out children on their own when (cont)
they become legal adults in the eyes of whatever state they’re in? you still have so much mental development to do at 16-18 but as long as the state you’re in sees you as an adult, and you’re not adopted yet, you get booted out onto your own with NO choice. THAT he to be fixed.

in early 2017, a 14 year old named Naika Venant went on facebook live for more than two hours right before she killed herself. she hung herself in the bathroom of her foster home in florida for everyone to see.
by the time she ended her life, she had bounced between foster homes, group homes, and shelters more than a dozen times starting when she was only 6. a report had alleged that naika was sexually abused while she was in foster care, the person accused denied it.
saying it was naika who was sexually aggressive. no one was charged and it wasn’t further investigated. naika at age 11, had actually asked her then foster mom to KILL her because she didn’t want to be in a foster home anymore.
as she got older naika started acting out more often and misbehaving. she attacked her foster mother. she broke a lamp. one in three children placed in foster care are abused. the annie e. casey foundation reports that only about 18% of all kids are placed into foster care because of abuse at their biological homes. but by placing that child into foster care, (cont)
the risk of that child being abused almost DOUBLES compared to leaving them with their biological parents in the first place. this means more than 40,800 children in foster care who were NEVER abused to begin with now will be. SOURCE: https://www.fosterfocusmag.com/articles/good-bad-and-ugly
another problem, unless the foster parents have a tunnel vision end goal of adoption, usually every foster home ends up being temporary. kids are constantly passed around and being treated like they have no value to them what so ever.
after removal from thei bio families, the star investigation found that children are bounced from placement to placement including away from any supportive foster parents they encounter. one 10 year old boy who had been in foster care for 6 years, (cont)
had been moved between placements about 70 times. that sounds like an exaggerated number, but it isn’t. in its defense, the state’s department for children and families said the child(ren) had suffered no harm and their “own conduct was a contributing cause of injury.” (cont)
yet, children in foster care have post-traumatic stress disorder rates higher than that of iraq war veterans, reported by the star investigation. children who have been in foster care, especially those who have been subjected to multiple moves, (cont)
have an extremely higher risk of becoming incarcerated. in a women’s prison in kansas, nearly 40 percent of the inmates had been in foster care previous to their arrest. SOURCE: https://theappeal.org/the-damage-done-by-foster-care-systems/
amid the opioid crisis, the already overcrowded foster care system became even MORE crowded. the united states had close to 500,000 and counting children in foster care across the nation. let’s be realistic. all 500,000 of those kids weren’t in sunny white picket fence homes.
on average, & especially if you’ve ever been in the system weather it be for a short time or not, you know that DCFS workers visit the homes of their children on their cases once, maybe sometimes twice a month at most. and depending on the parent and worker, it’s not always good.
sure, a lot of people who have never experienced the system first hand or have never known someone who has, they’re entitled to their own opinion to thinking that foster care is a way out of abortion etc. and it’s just the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
but hopefully this thread helps open some peoples eyes to show that it truly isn’t. if you INTENTIONALLY put your child in foster care, i can assure you you’ll more than likely do more damage to them than none even if you think they’ll be better off without you.
for the rest of this thread i’m going to link articles made about children who were abused/have passed away at the hand of the foster parents they were given. possible trigger warning! don’t read them if you’re easily triggered by some topics!
