LONG THREAD AHEAD!
i’m gonna go ahead and say what is on my mind right now. i’m not the best at constructing thoughts, so feel free to discuss with me if ever i said something wrong in this thread! i am open to different opinions and of course, learning from you all.

at first, i was also mad at people for going on with their lives as if nothing is happening and affecting black people, filipino & hk citizens’ freedom and more. i mean, how could they when the world is in shambles, right?
but upon thinking about the situation, i realized that i'd rather see people who actually know about these matters, people who actually care about these to use their platforms & speak up about it any day over performative activism, which sometimes we’re not aware of.
doing a chain of quoted tweets with the hashtag and going on and about your day, for instance.
i guess at some point, performative activism instead of silence is better since the issues still get spread but it also kills the reason why we’re speaking up about it.

however, we can all do better and turn our often performative activism and allyship into actual activism and allyship in a lot of different ways:
be consistent & make sure that what you share on media is what you preach & talk about irl. act on things that you know +

you are able to, donate what you can, go to protests if there is one in your area and if you are able to, take the time to teach and encourage people in your lives to do the same, sign petitions that you see and of course, constantly work on and question yourself,
“where did i screw up?” “how can i be better?” “what else can i do to make sure that i am contributing in any way that i can?” “what else can i educate myself on?”
those are the things you can ask yourself for self-improvement!
another thing that i also want to add on this thread is for the recent issues about roleplaying, doing prompts, etc. +

roleplayers can do their thing if they desire to, but it is up to them to respect the limits/boundaries [overpowering the movement and tweets about such important matters that deprives people of the chance to learn and get involved] that i believe they know, with common sense.
please do acknowledge the fact that this isn’t a competition of who can tweet about important matters the most. YES, you can educate and encourage people about relevant and important issues but refrain from calling them names and attacking them because, what good can it do?
educating while being civil IS doable and possible. if they’re stubborn and close minded, that’s on them. as long as you did your best to educate them, then you’ve done your part. the best thing to do is to redirect your energy to the things that we’re fighting for.
and for everyone, while you can go on with your life, do take your time to educate yourself and be aware of everything that is going on. we’re not kids anymore for us to remain unconscious
about societal issues. if you see things going on and you can ignore it, you’re privileged.
acknowledge your privilege, the thing that you have that enables you to live your life the way you are living right now without feeling like you’re in imminent danger all the time.

acknowledge the fact that while you’re looking for things to do because not much is going on for you, a lot is happening to other people. to the world.
just saw this carrd about terror bill, i thought there isn’t one. anyway, i’m adding it to this thread! https://junkterrorbill.carrd.co/
