BBC News @ 10 was a masterclass in ahistorical gloss. Barbara Plett Usher saying, “The protestors say this is part of a long history of repression...” No: it clearly IS part of a long history, that is uncontroversial. + uncritically presenting ‘Bad Apples’ excuse IV w official 🤦🏽‍♂️
People marching across UK & US against rampant racism & @BBCr4today decides to have @bbcnickrobinson perfomatively pretending to ‘grill’ “Pastor” Daryl Scott, one of the shrillest of Trump’s paid shills. This is such transparent evasion & pretence at engagement by BBC. Insulting.
Comprare ‘Pastor’ Scott IV - a blustering, barnstorming display of evasion, with IV just b4 9am w woman from @Blklivesmatter: calm, considered, direct answers. It’s not Black people who are hysterics, it’s Supremacists & their Shills who’ll say & do anything to hold onto power.
Of course BBC say, “But we balanced a pro-Trump voice w a BLM voice...”, but that’s sort of false equivalence that brought us Brexit. Platforming people with zero credibility & murky motives who don’t answer Qs up against people with clear affiliations & good faith is a BAD FAIL.
@BBCr4today : who shall we get on to put counter-intuitive take on BLM protests? Oh I know, that guy who Trump talked about using as ventriloquists dummy on leaked Cohen Tapes! He’s really credible. That won’t be insulting to intelligence of black people. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/trump-cohen-tape-mentioned-use-president-s-black-surrogates-why-n894586
It’s either a bad cock-up, or it’s a deliberate attempt to downplay the situation & muddy waters in the minds of predominantly white R4 listening audience who don’t know any better bc Scott is obscure enough for nobody to know who he is, & how clear a manipulation this is. Which?
I wonder what @JoyAnnReid thinks of the BBC platforming Pastor Daryl Scott at morning peak time to an audience that is not renowned for its diversity and which includes some of the most influential & powerful people in Britain? She knows who this guy is better than most of us.
