Hey duderonis, I have previously stated that I am naturally not a political person, especially on the Internet; for I try to create a space where I can make you guys laugh, have fun, and find solace/peace in shitposting..
However, I did make a statement a few nights ago on Instagram stories and I thought that was all that would be needed. This was before new information came out regarding the George Floyd situation and everything blew up the way it has.
This is when it got to the point where I knew I needed to do something, and fast. I called and emailed my local congressmen (even ones that weren’t local to me), signed petitions, checked up on individuals I know who are out going to protests, etc. etc.
I stayed rather quiet about all of this on social media, as I felt that I was already doing my part, and I already made a statement, so why should I have to make another? Upon further reflection, I didn’t provide enough substance, nor proof of allyship with my original post.
And for that, I do apologize. I have stood with the BLM movement for as long as I’ve known about it, but for my goal as a content creator to provide a safe haven/place for those going through issues to relax, I never spoke on it. Sometimes you have to break your own rules.
You’ll find later in this thread many links to petitions/ways you can help out. I want to clarify, I don’t 100% agree with EVERY ASPECT of either side, but I am on the side that is serving justice to officers who have abused their power for far too long.
And before you call me an SJW or liberal or whatever, I don’t consider myself part of any party. There’s a LOT I don’t agree with on the left, I just can’t stand to see human beings not treating each other like human beings.
Additionally, please stop attacking those who are not speaking out, because you have no idea what they’re going through at the moment. And I am in no way minimizing the BLM movement and what still needs to be accomplished,
but attacking others for not constantly posting about it 24/7, is irrational, and dare I say, insensitive. YouTube and Instagram are also currently censoring creators even MORE now, with what is going on, so perhaps people are trying to not risk a potential strike/ban.
Lastly, I’ll leave you with this: attacking each other because some think it’s 1st degree or 3rd degree, are for the riots or not for the riots, are just now supporting BLM or have been for a long time, is what they WANT us to do.
Arguing with each other and not focusing on the real issues and taking ACTION, as best as we can without getting hurt or putting ourselves at risk, is going to hold us back from REAL change. They want to keep us busy and distract us from the real issues.
