Let’s go to Independiente. A thread of photos & this video that hopefully captures some of the magic of attending a game at the Estadio Libertadores de América where the Rey de Copas (King of Cups) reside #Independiente :
For this match after a flying visit to Mercado de San Telmo we discovered a very decent bar called the 1870 Beer & Coffee two minutes from the stadium in Avellaneda that, not unusually for this part of Argentina, had a happy hour between 18:00-20:30 selling pints for 87 pence:
By this time on the trip we’d gotten very used to being greeted upon arrival by scores of riot police in every nook and cranny:
With more matches under my belt & confidence sky-high with the realisation not everyone wants to kill you, I was able to do what I love doing most here and take some photos around the stadium before the game (still available for this type of gig @MundialMag @Copa90 etc 😜):
To get tickets you have to go to Independiente’s version of Glastonbury with headline acts that include; beer served from shopping trollies for 50p, choripan (if you know you know) alongside all your usual is it fake or is it legit club memorabilia (cheap as chips):
As had very much become the norm the fans inside were on tip-top form:
More pics less chat please, Last:
And with that I’d completed the Cinco Grandes (Boca, River, Racing, San Lorenzo and Independiente) all in one trip of a lifetime. Lucky boy. Thanks for listening:
