i’ve seen a lot of comments on my tl overall saying that “kpop artists don’t need to talk about blm” “kpop artists don’t need to talk about politics”. i’m gonna write on why they can and deserve to talk about blm

[thread]
firstly i would like stress that my first language is not english therefore repeated vocabs may be seen under this thread
the #BLACK_LIVES_MATTER may have started in the united states, but this problem has been an ongoing problem in almost ALL countries around the world. not only in the states. not only in the north america. racism towards black people is a worldwide issue
black people have been discriminated across the countries. black youths have been killed in brazil. black people have been killed in the europe. black people have been murdered in indonesia. the blm movement has raised the voices of people outside the us
many american and british artists have spoken up about this issue. they used their big platform to raise the awareness of their followers. moreover, their followers may not only be americans. zayn malik posted a donation link and $15,000 was gathered from ONE tweet he shared
back to why i think kpop artists are allowed to talk about this. kpop has been a worldwide sensation. kpop artists nowadays don’t only gather fans from asia, but from all around the globe, especially the united states
they have millions of followers. even some groups have MORE followers than some well-known american artists. using their big platform for solely raising the AWARENESS of their followers about a crucial issue that is happening in the world may be needed
i saw one tweet - but i can’t find it again now - saying that “blm movement isn’t only about america. it isn’t a competition among artists who talked about it first. this is about changing people’s mindsets and fighting racists”
there have been many people outside the us and europe that aren’t aware about how big this issue is, including people in korea. they aren’t even aware yet how racism has taken a big part in their country.
a drama like itaewon class has even included this matter in their story line because racism has really been a problem in the daily life in korea. therefore i guess, a platform used by kpop artists would be very influential for taking part in this issue
i’m not forcing any kpop artists to talk about this. it is their own desicion to talk or not to talk. but in my opinion, wouldn’t it be such a waste if they don’t use their HUGE platform in spreading the news? at least by sharing a link to the petition or donation websites?
i’m an army so i’ll be talking this in b7s and army context (i’m not quite familiar with other kpop fandom context). but imagine that ONE PHOTO of a b7s member on a couch could move armys to sell out the couch. a COUCH. imagine how powerful one tweet of donation link would be?
again, i am not forcing the boys to say something, but they are ALLOWED to talk about this. a tweet i found saying that she’s having concern on the boys’ tweet in 2017 about the vegas incident that had many hate replies from mexicans bringing up about earthquake
some tweets i found are concerning more about the hates that they boys may receive from increasing the awareness of their followers, rather than the impact the boys would make. especially this day
and sadly some people said that this issue has been dividing the fans. i want you to read this:
i won’t set my hopes high on anyone, but i believe their platform would be very impactful in this matter.
and that’s the end of my flop thread. i just feel like there have been a lot of thoughts coming into my head that it’d be relieving for me if i speak it up like this. don’t forget to sign on petitions and donate! https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/#
