Allah has informed us that he has forbade oppression on himself, and has made oppression prohibited upon us, and so to oppress one another is impermissible in Islam. Any form of oppression is haram.
And the biggest form of oppression and the greatest sin in Islam, is to associate partners with Allah. For one to worship anything besides Allah. This is undoubtedly the greatest oppression on the face of this earth.
And one of the greatest sin in Islam after shirk, is the killing of a soul without just cause. Allah has described in the Quran that to kill an innocent soul is like killing all of humanity, and to save a soul is like saving all of humanity.
And the oppression and bloodshed that exists around us is not new to us nor is it unknown, and I speak specifically of the oppression in America and how the lives of many in the black community have been taken without just cause. Question is, How should a Muslim feel about it?
As Muslims, people of faith, the least that is required of us when it comes to witnessing that evil, or any evil, is that we hate that evil in our hearts. That we hate the injustices and oppression that we witness and come across. And that is the weakest of faith in that regard.
And if one has the ability to change an evil, by rebuking that evil with their tongue, then they should do so. And if a person can stop that evil with their hands, and that is to be in a position or a person of authority, then it is upon them to do so.
This in Islam is called “enjoining good and forbidding evil”. Allah explained in the Quran that our nation, the nation of Prophet Muhammad, is the best nation to ever come about mankind, because* of the fact that we enjoin good and forbid evil.
So as a Muslim if you see this evil, irrespective of the persons faith, know that firstly it is displeasing to Allah, and that you are required to do something about it depending on your capability. And if you do what you can to change it, then you have fulfilled what is upon you
May Allah strengthen our hearts with imaan, and grant us steadfastness in upholding the truth, and grant us patience during our trials and tribulations.
