LOU SULLIVAN (1951-1991)
fought for the right for gay trans people to medically transition. founded the largest lgbt archive in the world. started the first international ftm group and created ftm newsletter. passed away from aids-related complications in 1991.

ALEXANDER GOODRUM (1960-2002)
bisexual disabled black trans man who founded tgnet arizona. absolutely incredible educator and advocate for lgbt rights. awarded the godat award & and received an award in his name following his suicide in 2002.

JOSEPH LOBDELL (1829-1912)
often misgendered but lived his adult life as a man. after marrying a woman, he was discovered to be AFAB and put in a mental institution, where he became a spectacle. he remained institutionalized until his death in 1912.

DR. ALAN HART (1890-1962)
made history by being the first person recommended by a psychiatrist to remove a healthy organ in the name of transitioning. received a hysterectomy in 1918. hugely successful in identifying & combating tuberculosis in the 30s & 40s.

BLAKE BROCKINGTON (1996-2015)
made national news when he became the firstly openly transgender homecoming king. notable activist for trans rights and against police brutality/anti-blackness. tragically took his own life at 18 years old.

after inheriting his father's fortune in 1962, reed funded gay rights groups, like the mattachine society, and worked with various doctors to research transgender health around the world through the erickson educational foundation.

ROBERT EADS (1945-1999)
diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1996 and sought medical treatment, only to be turned down by more than a dozen doctors who refused to treat a transgender person. southern comfort, a documentary about him, was released 2 years after cancer killed him.

biracial bisexual trans man who started the foundation for the advancement of canadian transsexuals & the first international ftm newsletter (& helped lou sullivan start his!). still active in the lgbt community & dedicated to helping trans people

after moving towns and presenting as male, two friends discovered his AGAB, gang raped him, and then murdered him, his friend lisa lambert, and her boyfriend phillip devine after the sheriff refused to have them arrested for sexual assault.

transitioned in 1975 while working as a school PE teacher. despite overwhelming support from coworkers and students, he was fired for being trans. sued the school district for discrimination -- and won!

founded the trans person of color coalition and the transgender law and policy institute. after developing PTSD from workplace harassment for being trans, he became the first trans person to testify in front of the us senate for anti-discrimination laws.

marcelle and his partner loree fought hard to include partners of trans ppl in trans events. helped start true spirit with gary bowen (more below) to better include trans POC in conferences. sadly took his own life in 2000.

unfortunately, not much info on gary exists. however, gary is an indigenous trans man who started american boyz and co-founded true spirit. he worked diligently to make sure all demographics of trans people were included.

AMELIO ROBLES ĂVILA (1889-1984)
fought alongside emiliano zapata during the mexican revolution. unlike the other soldaderas of the revolution, amelio presented as male after the war until his death at the age of 95.
