THREAD:

I know I posted this earlier, but I think it bears repeating: white southern slaveholding women literally thought their slaves were being lured away from their plantations by Union soldiers. They couldn’t imagine that their slaves could be angry at them. (1/6)
They thought the slaves were too simple-minded and happy-go-lucky. This despite the fact that reports were circulating throughout the war of mistresses being killed by their slaves and the long history of runaways.(2/6)
THIS is the “outside agitator” myth that we see now. It is especially useful for white liberals who, in an attempt to counter their unaddressed racism, see blacks as good, docile, law-abiding citizens incapable of legitimate grievances (3/6)
And righteous rage. And this is where we see the mask slip. If white libs cannot convince themselves that blacks are docile, they will find themselves confronted with their preexisting stereotypes of brutality and savagery. (4/6)
This is always lurking in the background. Eventually their patience will run out. Like Biden, they’ll get angry and resent blacks for not groveling in appreciation. Their “non”racism is purely egotistical. They don’t want to be like “them” - conservatives. (5/6)
And just like their forefathers and mothers, they’ll be wondering who convinced their “good” slaves to burn down the plantation. (6/6)
I speak specifically about southern whites women because they are the ones I know best from my research. For further information on this topic, look no further than “They Were Her Property”, an outstanding book by Stephanie Jones-Rogers.
