wonder if someone will broach residency requirement https://twitter.com/RebeccaKKatz/status/1267104738459475968
"The more officers who live in the city the better, the more officers who grew up in the city the better," @NYCMayor says when asked if he'd consider residency requirement for police officers. Says progress has been made but economics/housing affordability make it tricky.
De Blasio says it's a conversation that's happened over decades and is worth continuing, but he indicates he doesn't support a requirement b/c of housing costs. (So why not change all residency reqs in city government then?)
Also what's interesting here is that de Blasio has often *defended* his big affordable housing program by saying the city must be home for police officers & other middle income city workers. No mention of that in his answer about NYPD residency req.

this is not something i'm pushing for, though i think it's an important & interesting topic & discussion to have, & i'm surprised by you dismissing it & giving such a flip explanation.
i wasn't placing it in any type of hierarchy, mentioned it in part bc I hadn't seen it raised recently but had seen some comments about so many NYPD living on LI
