LISTEN UP MINNESOTA: This is NOT correct. Healthcare providers do not need to know where you were, likely won’t ask, and you do not need to tell them. It’s the state health department who will be calling you. Short thread of info to follow. https://twitter.com/notgeauxgabby/status/1266887374606348290
You will be contacted if your test is positive. You will be asked if you consent to have your information shared with law enforcement for the “safety of first responders” - YOU CAN SAY NO. THERE WILL NOT BE CONSEQUENCES. PUBLIC HEALTH IS ON YOUR SIDE.
You cannot he retaliated against for:
a) Saying you were protesting or helping your community
b) Choosing not to share your name and information with law enforcement
c) Seeking medical care
If you say no, we record that response. Then we can show there is clear documentation of the negative impact the executive order has on Public Health efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.
If care is refused to you - please notify county or state public health. PH departments are invested in eliminating health disparities and discrimination against people of color. Even in the chaos of this pandemic, discrimination is something that is actively being watched.
If you need help with any of those things, it is the responsibility of county and state public health to ensure you are safe and have access to care. Be honest with your anticipated needs. You’ll receive 2 phone numbers to reach a public health worker 24/7 with any urgent needs.
Racism in healthcare is still an issue every single day. But, public health and healthcare providers have two different purposes. If healthcare providers aren’t listening to you or treating you, it is a public health issue. Use county and state resources, it is your right.
i’m sorry if this thread is out of order. twitter hates my guts
When you speak to case investigators after testing positive, you’ll be asked if your residence is a safe place to quarantine, and if you have concerns about being able to safely seek medical care if needed, WITHOUT using public transit or ride shares.
