I’ve kinda struggled to work out what to say about the last few days & resorted to largely saying nothing. Australians - even well-meaning Australians - do not really know how to deal with conversations about race. Or at least that’s been my experience of it. (1/5)
The energy we spend tiptoeing around the feelings of white people **so ready** to take umbrage at the mere suggestion of racism makes it just... not worth it sometimes. Just ask any brown person that’s ever spoken about race publicly or - heaven forbid - on the internet. (2/5)
I don’t claim to understand the depth of injustice that my African American or Indigenous Australian friends have experienced over centuries. But I do see your pain. I recognize it. (3/5)
White friends, frankly, now is the time to shut up and listen. Don’t just watch the horrific images in 1min news reports. *Actually listen* to what is being said. Listen to the pain & then listen to the answers coming from your black and brown friends. (4/5)
