One final thought, then I’m going to bed.

I’ve seen a few people tweet something along the lines of, “All the rioting takes the focus off the murder of George Floyd.” They then conclude something resembling “now the country can no longer support the issue/protest.”

My reply:

Then do not take your focus off of the issue or allowing your support for the genuine cause to wane. You know the difference righteous and unrighteous causes as well as righteous and unrighteous protests. Note the difference and stay focused on righteousness.

If you’ve said something like this, please back up and ask yourself, “Must apathy or abdication be the response to the unrighteous actions of others?”

Is that really the response you’re going to settle for when you think of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and countless others?

/3
And if you are a Christian, ask yourself, “Is there any place in the Bible where my Lord says it is okay NOT to pursue justice b/c others are unrighteous in *their* use of means?”

You don’t have take part in any unrighteous demonstration. And I would encourage you not to be.

But there are other options than rationalized bystanding. Organize something yourself. Choose another means of protest altogether. Always pray. Write your elected officials or call their offices. By all means, vote. Tons of ways to remain focused instead of sidelining yourself

Stay in the fight, beloved. The unrighteous win if we use any of their actions to justify our inaction. There are a lot of counterfeits in the world; we have to be among those who are true. Stay in the fight.

Get some rest. The work continues tomorrow, Lord willing.
