It is true that some protesters resort to throwing shit, breaking stuff, etc. as the day goes on. Obviously that's bad and they shouldn't do that. But it seems to be a response to the police not permitting them to demonstrate peacefully.
If the police believe this is the best tactic for dispersing protests, then it's up to @NYCMayor and @NYPDShea to justify that behavior. But that's not what they've been saying. In fact, they say they encourage peaceful protests. Hard to square that with these tactics.
