You may hear protesters from US or here call for abolition of the police. Your first impression might be “that is insane and impractical”

This from @MPD_150 explains how imagining a police-free future is about much more than cops. It’s about systems:
When people talk about police abolition they are not imagining a lawless society of free-range crime.

They challenge us to imagine what could be possible if our social systems prevented crime and supported ppl at risk, or had emergency intervention that don’t involve guns
I’m not asking anyone to pledge today to dismantle the police.

But I do think the police violence and systemic injustice on show in the US demands we look at the same in our backyard, and should challenge all of us to imagine alternatives to the broken status quo.
