Since we are starting to talk openly about systems of oppression; lets bring up the one that often gets left out of the conversation...Religion primarily Christianity and the role it played in Slavery within the Americas.
We are all familiar with the transatlantic slave trade; The Maritime route through which slaves would be transported to Europe and the Americas.
The man who would later be credited with discovering the Transatlantic slave trade is Prince Henry of Portugal or Henry “The Navigator”. In 1419 he would be tasked by the king of Portugal to explore trade routes through West Africa.
While not actually a sailor or a navigator Henry used his wealth to sponsor expeditions into Africa. Originally establishing contact with the Muslim population there for trade, He eventually hoped to subjugate them as a means to spread Christianity.
1441 would mark the beginning of the slave trade as he would transport sub-saharan Africans to Portugal for sale
In 1452 Pope Nicolas V issued a series of documents known as the Papal bulls, that approved the enslavement of Africans.
Pope Nicolas V would also send a mandate out to the King of Portugal saying
”To invade, search out, capture, vanquish, and subdue all Saracens and  pagans whatsoever …[and] to reduce their persons to perpetual slavery”
Which is a big deal cause the Pope was a worlf leader of WORLS leaders. If the pope said ”jump” The only response a European king could give was ”how high your Excellency?”
After some time Other European powers would see how lucrative ”spreading Christianity” was and join in the kidnapping and stealing people and treasures from across west Africa

I'm gonna end this here I didn't want this to be to long ill prolly do a part 2 tomorrow.
